Following successful completion my degree in Product Design at De Montfort University, I wish to continue designing products for a professional and highly recognised company. I reckon my first two years have been rewarding and have enabled me to acquire the foundations in design practice. What makes a product designer unique is that, in some cases he or she has an exceptional opportunity to determine the quality of people’s living conditions. A product designer deals with the design of products having in mind the needs of their users, offering them not only comfort but also practical solutions that make them feel safe and happy. Equally important are aesthetics which a product designer utilises to please the eye and soul of everyone who interact with the product. Special consideration is also given these days to the sustainability sector regarding the environmental concerns and energy savings. Thus a good product designer must come up with designs that address the above issues. My focus on product design has been completely enhanced since the start of my current year and I expect a significant improvement in my final year grades at DMU. In the last two years my grades were good but depending on my abilities I can aim for higher results.

My course included the opportunity to write several reports, allowing me to expand my oral communication skills, as well as acquiring computer skills through design, modelling and rendering softwares.

My personal skills are the ability to talk to groups of people, research and evaluate sources and work independently.

Personal Statement

The designing of innovated products or improving existing ones are the main targets of every product designer. In order to balance the demands of my studies and personal activities, I have become an effective time manager.

In addition, a very valuable and useful experience was the summer internships which I spent at the Special Lights Ltd since 2014. Working for Special Light Ltd which is specialised in the house lighting segment, I gained the knowledge of contacting with well-known companies. I was responsible for checking each product’s specifications and for the ordering segment. During consecutive summers I had the opportunity to visit two international lighting exhibitions which they were in Germany and Hong Kong. Simultaneously, I took part in meetings and I had some products’ inspections during the modelling process in a factory based in Greece. Summarising, I realised that except from the talent for design and creativity, the sector of promotion has a great value. The communication is a very important part of the work because it helps the designer to understand the needs of customers but also to coordinate the implementation of projects. Last but most importantly, a product designer should be a very professional and responsible person who will act with authority, ensuring that the instructions given to him should be successfully performed.

Feeling confident that I can become a successful product designer, I look forward to work as a professional designer. I hope after reviewing my portfolio and current progress you will consider my application positively. In the meantime, I would also welcome the opportunity of an interview.
